Cosmic Maelstrom is a term used to describe the Big Bang.

It was coined by Sir Fred Hoyle, a British astronomer and mathematician. The theory of Cosmic Maelstrom is that there are no other galaxies or stars outside our own Milky Way Galaxy because they have all been destroyed in this event.

We can also meet this term when describing the mess we observe at some asymmetrical galaxies. Take Messier 96 for example. Its gas and dust are distributed irregularly around the galaxy.

The galaxy seems as a massive maelstrom of blazing gas and black dust that is spiraling inward towards the galaxy’s center.
