Transhumanism is a social and philosophical movement that aims to transform the human condition by using technology to enhance human capacities.

The movement of transhumanism has its roots in the work of early 20th-century thinkers such as Russian cosmist Nikolai Fedorov and French philosopher Henri Bergson, who saw human evolution as a process that could be accelerated and directed by humans themselves.

In the 1950s and 1960s, British biologist J.B.S. Haldane and American computer scientist Marvin Minsky wrote about the possibility of using technology to extend human intelligence and physical capabilities. In the 1980s and 1990s, transhumanist ideas were developed further by American bioethicist Julian Savulescu and Italian philosopher Francesca Ferrando.

The transhumanist movement gained momentum in the 2000s with the advent of powerful new technologies and it’s an ever-growing intellectual and cultural force that seeks to direct our species’ evolution by using technology to enhance human capacities.

Transhumanists seek to fundamentally change not just nature but also the meaning of being human, and they view becoming posthuman as a means for this transformation. Transhumanists want to expand people’s abilities beyond that of any other organism.

By bringing new advancements in science, technology, and medicine, humanity will be able to overcome its biological limitations.

Transhumanists believe that humans may eventually be able to transform themselves into beings with such greatly expanded abilities as to merit the label “posthuman”.
